It’s not that you are in the story; it’s the story that’s in you
The Coal and Coke Heritage Center has served as an archive and resource library since making our collection available to the public in 1993. We serve as a documentation center for:
- More than 625 hours of taped interviews with men and women who lived and worked in various vocations during the coal and coke era
- A variety of mining and coking artifacts, photographs, maps, blueprints, documents, and newspapers
- A special library collection of coal mining literature, manuscripts, essays, poetry, and journal articles
- Report of the Bureau of Industrial Statistics for Pennsylvania (includes bituminous information) 1881-1882 (one volume), 1884,1886
- Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania (includes bituminous information) 1875 (anthracite information only), 1888, 1889, 1890, 1891, 1892, 1893, 1895, 1896, 1897, 1898, 1900, 1901, 1903, 1904,1905, 1906, 1912, 1913, 1914, 1916, 1917, 1919, and 1920
- An array of music, videos, and slide presentations
- An art collection featuring regional artists depictions of life experiences, places, and events
We make these resources accessible to researchers, to the educational and business communities, and to the community at large. Unfortunately, we do not have or have access to personnel records of those men who employed in any part of the coal or coke industry. Also, please keep in mind that we must rely solely on donations from many generous supporters for our collection development.
